The headlines are reading, "47-year old Susan Boyle wows Simon Cowell and the world with her rendition of I Dreamed a Dream on Britain's Got Talent." Everyone in the audience, not to mention the judges, see her step out on the stage and are immediately thinking she's going to suck because she's a rather plain looking woman, she's not skinny or blonde, and she could probably use some eyebrow plucking and a boob job and a bit of plastic surgery. She's wearing some simple dress, nothing flashy, she looks like you've set next to her at church. What the hell does she think she's doing up on stage in front of millions of people - how dare she think she's worthy to take up our time? Oh, well, get ready for a good laugh everyone!
Then she opens her mouth and the voice of an angel escapes. The crowd goes wild. They're so surprised because we all know that if you're "ugly" on the outside, you must be ugly on the inside too. Ugly and talentless - that goes hand in hand right? Oh, and she's OLD - she's 47 for crying out loud! I have no idea how she got out on stage without her walker. She must've been on a day pass from the old folks home.
The whole video has just turned the world topsy turvy for me . . .
Okay, first of all I never went to prom when I was in High School. I was an angsty teen and I hated the whole idea of dressing up and going to spend a magical night with a big group of other teenagers that I couldn't stand most of the time. Yeah, I wasn't a real popular student. So anyway, it's been twenty some odd years since I was in high school and guess what? Not going to prom seems to have not made a big impact on my life. YAY! Then along came Gabby - little miss girly-girl, not an angsty bone in her body. Well okay, maybe one bone but it's a real small bone - probably one that's in her ear or a toe bone or something.
So, it's been snowing here. I think that sucks. The sun has come out this afternoon - trying to cheer us all up and act like, "Hey, what's going on!" all perky like nothing happened, so we won't stay mad. I'm trying to hold a grudge, but it's hard to do that when I'm just so greatful for some light and warmth!
I forgot to tell you about this dream I had the other night . . . but first I must give you some disturbing back story.
A couple of years ago I bought this pre-cooked ham thing. I'd never cooked one before, but my mom said all you had to do was pop it in the oven with some pineapple blah, blah, blah and voila easy Sunday dinner. Continue Reading...
So yeah, it's been a busy week. We got the garden started. I didn't take photos because really, it just looks like dirt right now. Gabby helped me plant onions, potatoes, lettuce, spinach and I went ahead and planted carrots too. I still need to replant the tomatoes, but it's just been so hectic I haven't had time for that yet.
Our sink that was leaking . . . yeah it kept leaking and ultimately we had to replace the sink, sink plumping, faucets, and garbage disposal. That little project took up a couple of days. I swear nothing ever works out like you think it's going to. Continue Reading...
The weather has been absolutely gorgeous around these parts. The kids are on spring break and we've managed to get quite a few things accomplished. This weekend Gabby and I cleaned out a small garage - we're going to keep the chicks in there until they are big enough to move to the chicken coop. We took two pickup loads of junk to the dump from that garage, then we took one more load of junk from the chicken coop. Let's just say we're on a first name basis with the guy who runs the dump. His name is "Lucky." Continue Reading...
