Okay, so today I am going grocery shopping . . . and I know that everyone and their freaking dog is going to be there too. And we're all going to be looking for the last loaf of texas toast or can of shimmering cranberry gel, or "sauce" as some of us like to call it.

Sometimes when I'm shopping I just say the serenity prayer to myself over and over like a mantra.

Sometimes I hear Metallica playing in my head. Usually it's Metallica.

Growing Whiskers

When I was a kid I used to spend the summers with my great-grandparents. They lived in a small town, kind of like Mayberry. Both my mom's paternal grandparents lived there and her maternal grandma, and then there were several great aunts and uncles and cousins living all around the area. I loved going there and being around so much family. When I would stay with my mom's maternal grandma, some afternoons we would walk over to someone's house and go "visiting." Most often, we would go to my Great Aunt Irma's house.

My Aunt Irma had MS and was unable to walk. She lived with her husband and also her daughter and her family. They all took care of her - which is another good thing about living around family - hopefully, they help each other out. Anyway, when she was younger, a doctor had left her under an X-ray for too long and she had burn scars on her face from it.  That was back in the day when they didn't understand X-rays, I guess. Now, I wonder about all that - I mean was he ever held responsible for it? I'll never know. [More]

Late Breaking

Oh crap, I forgot to post until just now. I mean how do you forget to post to your blog during NaBloPoMo? I was all getting ready for bed and thinking, "It feels like I'm forgetting something . . ." and sure enough I was.

So for my late breaking post, here's photos of my recently purchased quinoa. I love that it says, "Soul food of the Andes" because when I read that I hear the "SOOOOOOOOOUL TRAAAAAIN" opening in my head. I also love that it says "BOLIVIA" in a stencil font. Very official looking. [More]

So, today I actually left the house. I know, I was pretty excited about it too. A friend of mine, Lu, called yesterday and wanted to go shopping and then to lunch. Now, for most people this would not be that big of a deal, but lately I am seriously worried that I am becoming agoraphobic. I was thinking that I have not been out of the house for about three weeks, then I remembered I did go babysit my nieces. But besides that excursion I have not been anywhere.

I agreed to go, but I was having these second thoughts about it all night. Then today, seriously, I was having a mild panic attack about going. It's so strange. I know it's not rational, but then I guess phobias really aren't rational - hence them being phobias and all. So anyway I talked myself out of the panic attack and ended up going.

Get ready for the most fascinating five or ten minutes of your life (depends on how quickly you can read). I would love to read your 100 things list. Leave me a link and I'll be there! I started writing this list quite awhile back - then I forgot about it. I found it the other day and decided to finish it. Whew, I can finally check that off the list!

I was planning to write a really spectacular post today to make up for the lame ones that I've been putting up lately, but then I was like, "Eh, let's not get crazy about this."  I like to set your expectations pretty low, so that if something spectacular happens you're truly WOWed.

Instead of writing, I'm just going to post some photos of my nieces. They are spectacular, actually, so hey, what am I worried about?

Here they are, just a regular night at home. Sippin' on apple juice, got their colors on their mind and their mind on their colors . . . [More]

Blogroll

I made a blogroll over there . . . it's really hard categorizing them, so forgive me if you're unhappy with where I put you. I love you all!

As you can also see, I love a lot of blogs. There are more than this, to be honest. Maybe I will post more when I have some more time.

If you see some you're not familiar with, you should check them out. Take it from me, you cannot have too many blogs in your life.

Thankful

So I've been trying to be more greatful for things - trying to focus on the positive side of life, trying to see the glass half-full, you know.

I don't know if you've heard of The Law of Vibration (or if you believe it). If you don't know what it is, here's a simple explanation of it, [More]

There's a great interview with Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner about Season 2 and 3 in the Chicago Tribune. Very interesting tidbits if you're interested . . . like finally letting us know that Peggy's baby is NOT being raised by her sister. I KNOW I was shocked too! There's more - check it out.

Can you tell I really miss this televsion show?
