It's so heartbreaking to hear about and see photos of the Victoria Bush fires . . . and to know that they were started by an arsonist. There are no words.

Looking at these photos all I could do was cry. My heart just goes out to these people and animals who have been hurt and had their homes destroyed by the fires.

Reports so far are saying 7000 people displaced and at least 21 people dead. It's just so very sad.

Here's a delicious way to say "Be my valentine!" with a heart shaped cake.

Make your cake in one square (8x8x2") and one round (8x1-1/2") pans. To make the heart shape, cut the round cake in half and place against the the square layer as shown in the diagram. So easy and cute!

Then frost and decorate your cake however your sweetie will like it best!

If you'd like a red cake here's a recipe for Red Velvet cake with White Frosting - click to enlarge.

Random Friday

Today is the first day I awoke without hacking up a lung. Because I am so happy about being able to breathe more normally I don't even mind that snow is in the forecast - even though it was almost seventy degrees two days ago . . .

Gabby made valentine cupcakes last night for her friends. Red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting . . . they smelled really awesome!

We live in a magical age people - I so love that a person is able to watch their favorite television shows on the internet. You don't have to wait for a specific time - you can pause them, watch them several times in a row - IT"S MAGIC I tellya MAGIC!

Lately, I have been obssessed with re-watching Twin Peaks. David Lynch is a freaking genius in my opinion. Even the stuff that you don't understand is fantastic. Watching this I was thinking how ahead of its time this show was.  If you have some time - go watch it from the beginning.

Where to start . . . well first, the bronchitis fairy visited and left me a couple of lungs full of mucus that I'm still hacking up - "Pneumonia, the gift that keeps on giving." I don't know if it's pneumonia really, I do like to exaggerate, but seriously it SUCKS and it kept me down a good week. I'm still not 100 percent, but at least I can walk to the kitchen and back without having to set down and catch my breath.  Grrrr.... I hate being sick. HATE it.

David was telling me that he's begun a new twitter account and suggested I do the same. I laughed and said that my days are really pretty boring and that no one needs to know "Just let the dog out"  "oh now I'm letting the dog back in".  He also suggested I could update people with "just had another coughing fit" Oh, yeah, everyone would be hanging on my every word!

Today's February 3rd - the 50th anniversary of the plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper.

I grew up loving Buddy Holly - I still do - and everytime I think about all the music he made and the impact he had on pop culture by the time he was 22 - I'm amazed.  I love Richie Valens and the Big Bopper too, I just have a soft spot for Buddy. I think it's the glasses.

They're having a Winter Dance Party 50 years later in Clearlake, Iowa if you happen to be near there. I think it would be a blast. They're having it at the Surf Ballroom - the same one that the bands last performed at. It's supposed to look pretty much the same as it did 50 years ago. I love that they are preserving the original look.
