The Day the Music Died

Today’s February 3rd – the 50th anniversary of the plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper.

I grew up loving Buddy Holly – I still do – and everytime I think about all the music he made and the impact he had on pop culture by the time he was 22 – I’m amazed.  I love Richie Valens and the Big Bopper too, I just have a soft spot for Buddy. I think it’s the glasses.

They’re having a Winter Dance Party 50 years later in Clearlake, Iowa if you happen to be near there. I think it would be a blast. They’re having it at the Surf Ballroom – the same one that the bands last performed at. It’s supposed to look pretty much the same as it did 50 years ago. I love that they are preserving the original look.
