Giraffe Carving

So today I saw this over at Dinosaurs and Robots. Wow. Somehow it makes me feel better looking at it. Maybe because it's so huge and so old. I feel better knowing that there's some drive in us that makes us want to carve pictures into rocks. We want to make something beautiful that will last. Art does matter.

This petroglyph is believed to be one of the oldest, and largest, in existence. It is located in what is now Niger, Africa, and it's thought to be around 7000 years old. There is more detailed information about the petroglyph here at the Bradshaw Foundation where they are working to preserve the stone carving from erosion, graffitti and theft.

And now back to our regularly scheduled programming

When I'm setting at my computer desk - I'll take a picture of that sometime when it's cleaned off - I have some lovely views  of our backyard. On my left side, about 8 feet away is a smaller window that looks out onto a nice tree and the roof of one of our sheds. I like this view because in the summer its just full of green leaves. It's very peaceful.

Lost and Found

Well, I'm back. We got hit with the flu bug that's going around. Gabby and I have been pretty much bedridden for the past couple of days. I feel better today, but still not 100%. I left off with such a downer post – but that’s just how I’ve been feeling lately. Dealing with my family feels like walking through a field of turnstiles, and all the turnstiles are made out of thin paring knives. Each movement gives you a tiny little cut, so tiny you don’t hardly notice at first, but the deeper you go into it the more you notice all the little cuts adding up to one bit messy wound. You can’t really maneuver to get away without getting more cuts. You’re trapped. Continue Reading...

Every day is like Sunday . . .

I don't know if this happens to everyone, but at times being around my family is really overwhelming, and quite frankly, very depressing. It's a whole big mix of stuff we can talk about later (since right now I'm feeling overwhlemed by it). Instead, I shall leave you with this . . .

Black Friday?

I don't know about you, but I think I'll skip the whole shopping madness today. I know it's not Advent quite yet, but I thought this was appropriate for today.

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I wish you could all stop by and have some Turkey or pie with us! I hope you have a nice time with your family and friends, and I hope that you have lots of things to be thankful for!

Thanksgiving eve

So today I will be busy cleaning (yuck) and baking pies.  I had to get up early to make 4 packages of StoveTop Stuffing for David's work's potluck Thanksgiving dinner. (I'm not sure of the proper use of all those apostrophes - what is the possessive in that sentence? There's probably a better way to write it, sorry) Anyway, he was off with his crockpot full of boxed stuffing. For our dinner tomorrow he will make his homemade stuffing - a recipe from his Granny. We've already got the bread sitting out getting all dry and hard.

Thankful for

So, I'm thinking about things I'm thankful for - and believe me I have LOTS to be thankful for. Things I take for granted everyday. One of those things is my husband. He's just a really good guy and it's easy to get used to that and forget how lucky I am to have him in my life.

He's handsome and kind and generous and patient. (That patient thing really comes in handy for him since he lives with two female humans and one hyperactive female dog.) I've known my husband for twelve years now and I'm still surprised by his genuine goodness, for lack of a better word.

Printable Place Cards

So, we survived Saturday. It was, as I expected, jam packed with other shoppers. Gabby and her friend went to the movies and then to the zoo on Saturday. She tells me that no one was at the zoo, (because they were all at Sam's Club open house sample tasting EXTRAVAGANZA). Next year I'm going to the zoo. Continue Reading...
