RIP Mercedes Sosa

I saw on the news today that Latin American singer Mercedes Sosa passed away. My sister-in-law introduced me to Ms. Sosa’s music, and wow – what a beautiful singer and person she was. I’m so glad we can still hear her music even though she’s no longer with us.

Oh, thank you for posting this tribute! I heard about “La Negra” (as she was lovingly called because of her beautiful long black hair) on the radio this afternoon, and I am so sorry that she is no longer in the world with us. As you say, though, she will always be here through her music. This past Friday our yoga class celebrated Ghandi’s birthday and the strength that was the source of his practice of nonviolence. We listened to a song by MC Yogi, who called Ghandi, “a beautiful soldier who fought with his mind.” Mercedes Sosa was a beautiful soldier who fought with song, standing up for her country even in the face of threats and exile, making every word more powerful through the instrument of her voice.

Hm, it would be an even nicer shout-out to Gandhi if I spelled his name right.
