While we're on the subject of horror comic books, I have to share one more story with you - this one is a story that is supposedly based on fact - see I learned alot from reading comic books! This story was from a Creepy Comic Book (#53, 1973) and is called, "The Night The Creatures Attacked" about an alien encounter near Hopkinsville, Kentucky in August of 1955.  I did find some interesting links about this when I did an online search. I've included the links so you can verify the story for yourself.

Then suddenly it hit me. I'm verifying facts from a comic book on the internet - obviously, it all has to be true.

Obviously, I have lost touch with all sense of reality.  I'm off now to purchase the latest edtion of the Enquirer so I can read all about today's latest news stories. [More]

When I was a kid I had an uncle who read comic books - mostly he liked military ones like Sargent Rock and Blazing Combat, but he also read Creepy, Eerie and Vampirella. When he moved out of my grandma's house my brother, sister and I inherited his large collection of comics. As a kid I remember getting truely freaked out by some of the stories - looking back through them now I kind of laugh at that, but I still think the artwork is fantastic. I can remember spending hours just studying the artwork in these comic books - I think they really taught me a lot about illustration (see, comics are good for you!).

And the ads - yeah, I still want to order all the stuff I see in the ads!

Here is one of the stories from a Vampirella comic book (#28, 1973). I had a really hard time choosing just one story - there are so many I still like.  Some that are really freaky and some that are classic horror tales. I picked this one because the artwork is great, and also because it's a timeless "scary story" that's been told a million times around campfires or at sleepovers (we called it "Don't Look Back"), and you know I'm a sucker for the classics!  Hope you like this one - click on each page for a larger version.

When I was growing up my family lived down the street from my mom’s mom. My mom came from a large family and she was the second oldest. When I was a kid I still had aunts and uncles who were only a few years older than me. Whenever I was bored I could walk a few houses down the block and pop into my grandma’s to play with my aunt who was two years older than me, or maybe go out back to discover the latest extreme sport my uncle had invented, or maybe hear the latest sensational urban myth from a different uncle. I thought they were all so cool and worldly – the way most young kids look up to older kids.

On one corner of our block there was a large white house with red shutters. If some of us kids happened to riding our bikes on the sidewalk, or walking past the house – it was on the way to school – the woman who lived there would come outside and yell at us kids to “Get off my sidewalk!” and to “Stay off the grass!”
